As Christians, why should we do our best at everything we do?
1) Because Jesus did His best, and He is our pattern. You can find Him in every book of the Bible.
2) Because God tells us to do our best. He calls us to live holy lives. 1 Peter 1:15; Colossians 3:23
3) Because a change in our nature means that we now want to live a holy life and we devote ourselves to Him and allow His Holy Spirit to make those changes in us that make us, not just better people, but Christ-like. We are being transformed into His image.
4) Because we love God so much that we want to please Him and live for Him.
Notice that I didn’t say we must be the best at everything we do.
We just can’t be good enough to earn heaven. If you ever have any doubts about that, read through Paul’s letter to the Galatians. We have to rely on Jesus for His goodness and our entrance into heaven. But our desire, as disciples of Christ and children of God, should be to become more and more like Jesus as we live from day to day. After all Christ has done for us, what else could be our reasonable service? (Romans 12:1).
We are now, like Paul, ambassadors for Christ. Every person we meet, every family member we interact with, are interacting with Christ In Us. The grace of God isn’t an excuse for living life any old way we want to, but the power to live that transformed life we are told about in Romans 12:2 and 2 Corinthians 3:18.
If Christ in us doesn’t make us want to bow down and worship and live a holy life, then we need to reassess and get serious with God.
This is a great post, and a lot to think about!
