Taco Seasoning Mix You Can Make

This is my contribution to Wardee’s Tuesday Twister
Taco Seasoning

I use Taco Seasoning mix for all kinds of recipes; tacos, burritos, even chili.  Here is a homemade version of Taco Seasoning, without fillers and using fresh ingredients.
Taco Seasoning Mix

2 Tsp dried minced onion – more on this later
1 Tsp Sea Salt
½ Tsp arrowroot powder
½ Tsp Garlic powder – see below
½ Tsp ground cumin
1 Tsp Chili powder
½ Tsp ground red pepper
1/4 Tsp oregano dried

Store in dry place.
To make Taco Meat: Brown 1 # ground beef or turkey. Drain. Add ½ cup water, seasoning pkt. Simmer 10 minutes. Fills 8 – 10 tacos

I started drying onions years ago. I mince the onion in my food processor then dry it on waxed paper in my dehydrator til it is completely dry and hard. After they are dry you can run them through the food processor again to make them smaller, even into onion powder. I store the dried onion in jars in the freezer. I dry and store garlic the same way!
Drying onions and garlic is just a way to keep the harvest from my garden, I had rather use fresh onions and garlic in most recipes, but in recipes like this mix, the dried version works great!

I make a taco seasoning with all of the same ingredients except for the dried onion. What a great idea! Thanks for sharing your technique. I’ll have to try it!

This is great! Thanks for the tips on dehydrating your own onions and garlic. 🙂 I am going to make this for sure – actually, I’m going to ask A. if she will make it.
