Its really hot here.  We’re in the temperate zone but its feeling a bit intemperate!  We were 110* today and we’ve been hovering around 101-110* for a few weeks.  Those frenzied thunder storms that accompany really hot weather broke out yesterday and the day before so we finally did get some rain. And we got downed trees and torn up siding on the house. But all-in-all it wasn’t too bad.

Providence Spring, Andersonville, GA

The garden is about burned up. We’re planning on starting over, that’s a plus to living where there is a long growing season. We didn’t get too much from the garden, but enough to put up a few tomatoes, green beans and ferment some squash and cabbage.  The tomatoes are actually still producing.

Its way too hot to bake so I’ve not been making bread. I don’t think we’d eat it even if I did.

We did get away today and go to the Belle Meade Plantation in Nashville, Tennessee.  We took Mark’s mother to a nice restaurant and had a lovely time.  Back in the day, when Mark was in the corporate world, we ate at places like the Harding House restaurant quite a bit.  It seems so long ago.   About 20 years.   Today, we almost never go to places like that, and don’t get me wrong, its nice.  But I  don’t miss that life at all.    At. all.   Suit and tie, big car, big hair  and spending too much money on junk.  Give me my little house in the country and bare feet at the clothesline.

Anyway, it was a good time today because of the people we were with, loved ones.  And the drive was nice.

We went to Atlanta GA. and as far south as Andersonville, GA last week. Went to a bunch of Civil War sites, Prisoner Of War Museum, Lookout Mountain, Coke Museum, Aquarium. It was the first real vacation we’d had in about 16 years and it was really nice. Lots of fun. Just me, Mark and the two youngest children.

I am still in vacation mode and plan to be so until maybe Monday.  That’s when the little sweetheart I baby sit comes back into our lives. On second thought we may just go on vacationing together. I figure we won’t be planting the garden again for a couple of weeks.

I hope you are having a good summer!
