Buttlermilk Pie

Buttermilk Pie – Ooey and gooey, just the right amount of ‘sweetness” and a touch of lemon to set it off. This is an old, old recipe, still delicious today. My family loves it.

1 1/4 cups sugar

3 tablespoons flour

4 eggs, whisked

1 cup buttermilk

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

1 stick butter, melted and cooled

1 tablespoon fresh squeezed lemon juice

1 tablespoon lemon zest

pinch of grated Nutmeg

Preheat oven to 425*F

Combine the flour and sugar and mix well. Stir in the eggs, and buttermilk.

Add the cooled melted butter, vanilla, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Add a pinch of grated Nutmeg. Pour into the unbaked pie shell. Put the pie in the center of the oven and bake at 425 in a pre-heated oven for 15 minutes, then lower the temp to 350, and bake for 40 more minutes. Cool completely. Store in the frig.

I love buttermilk pie! We add toasted unsweetened flaked coconut for a lite twist on this recipe. I got this from my Grandma who was from Augusta, GA.

      Karen,
My daughter was commenting on Sunday that the pie would be good with coconut! I will have to try that. Thanks! 😀
